The Herdsman

The Herdsman story began back in 1978 when owner Dennis Cerinich and his father Loui were running a fruit and vegetable stall in the Karrinyup Shopping Complex. Soon after, family friend Tony Suvalijko joined the business, and the Herdsman Growers Market was opened in Churchlands on December 4th 1979.

1996 saw the well-earned retirement of founders Loui and Tony, which led Dennis’ brother Allan to join the family business. Together the brothers realised that the retail business was starting to shift directions and decided to make a change. The two realised that what customers wanted most were healthy produce and quality products presented fresh and conveniently, all under one roof.

After a seven-month redevelopment of the premises, ‘Herdsman Fresh Essentials’ emerged.

In 2006 the ‘Blah Blah Bar’ was born, providing hot coffee and a lavish array of delicious sandwiches, coffees, cakes, juices and gelato. 2008 saw a refurbishment of the Bakery area, and the launch of ‘Breadquarters’, where the aroma of freshly baked breads, biscuits and muffins now fills the store each morning.

In 2013, reflecting a desire to further evolve the business, Herdsman Fresh Essentials was re-branded as The Herdsman, with the descriptor Inspiring Food. Building on over 30 years of innovation and fresh food, the company continues to work diligently "to be an inspiration to people who love food".
