Great Greengrocers enter a Fruity team in the Rottnest Swim

The team, officially called "The Fruitateers" comprised of four swimmers Anthony Pullella, Nathan Linehan Brad Mercer and Brian McGurk, supported by Brad Hayden who skippered the boat and support crew. The team completed the 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island in 5 hours 20 minutes, finishing in the top 10 of their category.

The keen swimmers practiced leading up to the event, stocking up on plenty of fruit and veg nutrients to boost their energy levels.

"It's a great accomplishment for me to have finished the Rottnest Swim, representing the Great Greengrocers of WA" said Anthony Pullella, Gwelup Fruits & More.

An army of independent green grocers have joined the Great Greengrocer, a marketing campaign developed jointly by the Perth Market Authority and the Chamber of Fruit and Vegetables Industries WA.

The Great Greengrocer campaign encourages consumers to support local independent green grocers and increase consumer awareness on the importance of choice, flavour and expert knowledge when buying fresh produce.

The Great Greengrocers represent 32 retail stores spanning from Geraldton to Bunbury including the Perth metropolitan area. These retailers are the experts in fresh produce, some coming from generations of experience in fresh produce.
"Great Greengrocers, put our heart and soul into ensuring that our customers have the freshest most flavoursome selection of fruit and vegetables and receive great service when they come into our stores" said Mr Pullella, of Gwelup Fruits & More.

Gwelup Fruits & More Gwellup is a family business which opened its doors in 2003. With decades of experience in fresh produce, handed down from father to son, Gwelup Fruits & More have grown their business and reputation for quality fresh produce, excellent customer service and value for money, winning numerous industry awards for excellence in fresh produce retailing.

Skipper Brad Hayden, Hills Fresh says "It was pleasing to see over $100,000 raised for charity today. Competing in the Rottnest Swim is a great opportunity to push the limits of fitness and skill and give back to the community"

Hills Fresh in Mundaring is also a family-owned business with a commitment to quality and service at the best price. With a background in foodservice, Brad knows what tastes best and is at the markets everyday selecting only the most flavoursome produce for his customers. Together with the rest of the Hayden family, Brad takes great pride in their store working tirelessly to ensure that it is pristine clean and plentifully stocked at all times.

"We are encouraging Western Australians to join the fight for flavour and shop at their local Great Greengrocer," said Brad.
